FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Education sprouts in many directions depending on our perspective. Our views of what it should look like and how it should materialize depends on our value of it, our experience and our dreams.

Our dear President, Late Dr. Abdul Kalam’s advice to students is

‘Set goals, acquire knowledge, work hard and dream.’

In the modern scenario, education comes from ‘Blended environments’ and ‘flattened walls’. Classrooms are changing into ‘learning spaces’ where learning crosses the classroom walls for more emphasis on community development and global collaboration. Whether inside a well-engineered building called ‘School’ or at a cultural festival organized by the community, students might just learn what they want to learn. In every nook and cranny, around every corner, opportunities lurk to draw experience from, learn and find success while improving the world around. With this ideology, John Taylor Gatto urges teachers to choose the real world over the classroom. Learning to live and survive starts at home, extends into the classroom and moves into the world around.

The challenge to educationists is to give students the skills to survive and to coexist in the world around. Lessons taught need to open students to think who they want to become. In this age of advanced technology, students also need to be equipped with skills that make them careful evaluators of information and sources. The emphasis must be an intrinsic motivation with shift from grades to becoming lifelong self-learners, aiming for mastery.

Schools in the 21st century must work towards engaging all families in partnership with parents through surveys, parent interviews and invitations to join as valued contributors.

At Stanes ICSE we claim the promise of our God from Isaiah 43:19

‘See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it.’ I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.’

Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.’

I believe now is the time, now is the season.

Here’s to a year full of hope and happiness. Let us together make 2017 -2018 one for the record books.

Yours sincerely

 Principal
